The Beginning

Here's a picture that might look familiar to many of you. According to the metadata attached to the picture it was taken on July 5, 2009 at AJ's condo in Peoria, Illinois.

At many Hinds family gatherings it was typical for Uncle Wink to take the pictures but he died September 11, 2004, so he couldn't have taken it. By a process of elimination based on everyone in the photo I believe that it was Dawn.

As I look closely at this picture I am filled with a mixture of happiness and sadness. Happiness because I remember that day ~ we were so happy to all be together in part, because several out-of-town family members were in Peoria that holiday to celebrate Bonnie's birthday. And sadness because a couple of the people in the picture are no longer with us. And all those kids in the picture who are no longer kids! Though this picture was taken in 2009 it really doesn't seem like it was all that long ago.

Since I now have a bit of extra time on my hands I decided it was as good a time as any to resurrect the family research that was started by Uncle Wink & Aunt Jeanne and Uncle Bob, and share it with all of you.

In future posts, I will try to post pictures of direct ancestors from the Hinds and the Bell families. And as I research more I can post information about other (less direct) ancestors in both family trees. And I'll also try to provide family anecdotes or links to historical sources that might be of interest to provide a better picture of what was going on in the world during that time frame.

I'd like to think of this as a collaborative effort so if you have pictures or anecdotes or anything that you think might be interesting please post it or comment.

I have included a "Follow By Email" option on the right-hand margin. If you add your email you will get a notice when new content is posted. No email address, no notification.

And feel free to pass this information along to other family members that might be interested in getting this type of family history. I really enjoy the research and geeking out on this stuff, but I realize that not everyone wants to learn this stuff, and we all have lives and challenges to deal with.
